Media's Impact

The reason people would want to turn to such copies of each other is the “need” to become the perfect man or woman. We feel the need for such actions due to the media around us. Current media influences our decisions and will end up with billions of copies of 1 original source. The “hype” clothing or make-up products have made a large influence on females. If we were all to not wear uniforms, we may see similar patterns in their dressing. When the people find what is “in style”, they would have a goal to obtain these goods. Companies are driven by profits and would do anything to get it. They could do such things when they get models into photo shoots with their products. These photos show the models “looking good” in the clothes. We believe that we would look good with the clothes. WRONG! We compare ourselves from the picture to the mirror. These people who compare themselves to the media would never find a look they are happy with.
Personally, I believe that I am not really affected by the media. It is true I see a fashion blog or picture here and there, but I don’t really find the need to look like them. I know that it would be impossible to look similar to them so I wouldn’t even try. However, I would occasionally find something that I find quite cool and would like to have. This means that I could be driven into the media and may happen at any time. I stick to a similar style I feel most comfortable with and occasionally change small bits to look better.
I think the limitation of images to be shown would help the effect on young men and women. With a limitation, they wouldn’t be as affected on the media as it is today. A single magazine has over 10 pictures or articles about fashion or what is “hype”. With a limitation, we will keep the pictures and articles at a minimum so the effects will not be as potent. If a magazine was to have a cover page with a picture that is not glammed up, consumers would not be attracted to the magazine, reducing sales. Magazine companies need money from the magazines to continue gaining profits. With decreased sales, they would not be gaining as much of a profit. Our society is currently all about money so I believe that it is possible but would not be likely to happen.

MySpace I prefer staying away from fashion media (:

  1. I agree that people are spending too much time caring about what they wear and what they look like. There is no such thing as a perfect human and trying to change yourself proves nothing but makes you worse. I also prefer to stay away from fashion media.
