When I first found the video and saw the title, I wondered what this song was, because I didn't know if I heard of this song before (I listened old songs thanks to my dad). When I finally played the video, I was really surprised! I knew this song due to the radio or some other sort of media some time ago. While listening to the music, I was having a blast!
Some principles of media arts in the music video includes interactivity. This is because the singer is communicating with us and telling us that we have killed radio with videos. The chorus is also very catchy and that can lure people into the song. I personally want songs stuck in my head, but not those that I don't know the name of. This song constantly tells us the name of the song, which is "Video killed the Radio Star". The music video does not seem to have a lot of editing used. This was meant to show that Video has affected the radio business.
Something that may have influenced them t create this music video is the beginning in the decline of people listening to the radio and watching videos instead. This resulted in the decline of listeners for radio stations. The video tells us what happened to the radio star that used to be popular until videos came.
The acting within this video is very plain and dull. There were barely any special effects within the video. I believe this is used to represent the old days, when we couldn't see the singers on the radio. The singer inside the video, did not change his facial expression while he was singing throughout the story. It shows how we can't really see how the singer feels behind the microphone. This was able to get the audience's attention because high amounts of visual effects will distract them from the actual lyrics. In the video, there is not many things to distract them from the lyrics. The visuals are not very exciting, so they could listen to the lyrics.
I think that this video is very well done, even if there were not many things that catch the eyes of the audience. If this kind of video was used for serious songs, then the message could easily be heard in the video. I personally go on Youtube and find a song. When the song is playing, I go onto some other website so I would not be distracted from the music. I am not a huge fan of visual effects, unless I am really attracted to them.
