The Web is You!

We can currently see that our typing skills have increased in words per minute, but during instant messaging, many of these concepts are forgotten. As we begin to use abbreviations, we are decreasing the amount we need to type, but still provide the same message. For example, instead of saying "Haha, that's funny" We could easily respond with "LOL" or the face "xD". This is much shorter than the text before and still provides the same response. This can help us save time. Also, the blogs can help us save money. The blogs are like our online journal we want to add. When we go to the store and buy a journal, we are wasting money and could easily be lost. When you create a blog, it will always be there when you log on and it would not have torn or crumpled paper. It would be clear for you to read in the future. Also, we can purchase E-books online. This can save us time when we are on the move and have people get the same book with the same condition. All of the e-books would look the same and there would not be any wrinkles on the beautiful cover or other pages of the book. Simply write down a note on a notepad to remind yourself of the page you left off and you may start reading once again! We are aware of the term "stranger danger" this is helping in real life and online. Our safety is always at risk whenever we try something new, but once we know what to avoid, we can enjoy the new technology or activity. Our society is become more and less social. Online, we can talk to many people from around the world due to instant messaging appications. We can also talk with strangers and receive help for questions on homework that we do not know of. This can help us on expanding our learning without moving and going to the library for books. We can also see how people change online. This will help let others see some people's true features. They could act nice and shy in real life, but be a jerk online. They feel that no one can harm them through the computer screen, but will be mistaken when they notice what kind of troubles that they have gotten into. Families are able to get in touch and more updated on their family. For work, people will be able to complete tasks with greater ease. They can quickly search up things that they would need for a given assignment. However, it can also distract the user from their work, making them fall behind in their work. Haha, this is my last post for work (: All that is left is response for posts! Alright! LET'S DO THIS!

A Look At Music Video: Video killed the Radio Star

When I first found the video and saw the title, I wondered what this song was, because I didn't know if I heard of this song before (I listened old songs thanks to my dad). When I finally played the video, I was really surprised! I knew this song due to the radio or some other sort of media some time ago. While listening to the music, I was having a blast! Some principles of media arts in the music video includes interactivity. This is because the singer is communicating with us and telling us that we have killed radio with videos. The chorus is also very catchy and that can lure people into the song. I personally want songs stuck in my head, but not those that I don't know the name of. This song constantly tells us the name of the song, which is "Video killed the Radio Star". The music video does not seem to have a lot of editing used. This was meant to show that Video has affected the radio business. Something that may have influenced them t create this music video is the beginning in the decline of people listening to the radio and watching videos instead. This resulted in the decline of listeners for radio stations. The video tells us what happened to the radio star that used to be popular until videos came. The acting within this video is very plain and dull. There were barely any special effects within the video. I believe this is used to represent the old days, when we couldn't see the singers on the radio. The singer inside the video, did not change his facial expression while he was singing throughout the story. It shows how we can't really see how the singer feels behind the microphone. This was able to get the audience's attention because high amounts of visual effects will distract them from the actual lyrics. In the video, there is not many things to distract them from the lyrics. The visuals are not very exciting, so they could listen to the lyrics. I think that this video is very well done, even if there were not many things that catch the eyes of the audience. If this kind of video was used for serious songs, then the message could easily be heard in the video. I personally go on Youtube and find a song. When the song is playing, I go onto some other website so I would not be distracted from the music. I am not a huge fan of visual effects, unless I am really attracted to them.

Media's Impact

The reason people would want to turn to such copies of each other is the “need” to become the perfect man or woman. We feel the need for such actions due to the media around us. Current media influences our decisions and will end up with billions of copies of 1 original source. The “hype” clothing or make-up products have made a large influence on females. If we were all to not wear uniforms, we may see similar patterns in their dressing. When the people find what is “in style”, they would have a goal to obtain these goods. Companies are driven by profits and would do anything to get it. They could do such things when they get models into photo shoots with their products. These photos show the models “looking good” in the clothes. We believe that we would look good with the clothes. WRONG! We compare ourselves from the picture to the mirror. These people who compare themselves to the media would never find a look they are happy with.
Personally, I believe that I am not really affected by the media. It is true I see a fashion blog or picture here and there, but I don’t really find the need to look like them. I know that it would be impossible to look similar to them so I wouldn’t even try. However, I would occasionally find something that I find quite cool and would like to have. This means that I could be driven into the media and may happen at any time. I stick to a similar style I feel most comfortable with and occasionally change small bits to look better.
I think the limitation of images to be shown would help the effect on young men and women. With a limitation, they wouldn’t be as affected on the media as it is today. A single magazine has over 10 pictures or articles about fashion or what is “hype”. With a limitation, we will keep the pictures and articles at a minimum so the effects will not be as potent. If a magazine was to have a cover page with a picture that is not glammed up, consumers would not be attracted to the magazine, reducing sales. Magazine companies need money from the magazines to continue gaining profits. With decreased sales, they would not be gaining as much of a profit. Our society is currently all about money so I believe that it is possible but would not be likely to happen.

MySpace I prefer staying away from fashion media (:

Is File Sharing Alright?

Personally, File sharing to me is a normal way for me to obtain things online. Things such as; music, pictures and documents are some of the many examples of what I get from file sharing. I don’t see anything wrong with the file sharing. It has given many people the chance to obtain files that may not be available in certain countries. An example of this is when someone in Canada wants to try and get something like a music video from Korea. It would be quite impossible to obtain these types of videos which are not physically available here in Canada. File sharing website such as MegaVideo and Youtube allow internet users to see these sites and see this video.

If it was my own work, I would also allow people to share it. In a way, it would allow people to use it as inspiration for one, and perhaps create work of their own. The internet is a big community and things made on the internet should be able to be used by others. One popular thing on Youtube is song covers and remixes of videos. These videos are based off other videos on youtube. If my piece was to be shared by the internet, it would also be able to raise publicity. People have been discovered off Youtube multiple times and allow them to become famous. People with large potential may also be discovered through the internet. Their pieces of art can vary and have their own personal style. It makes them special and one of a kind.

Copyright is copyright. This should not change for any reason. People have the right to copyright their pieces. However, people are also able to disregard this copyright and use it anyways. I believe that the usage of copyright material is okay until a certain extent. It would be okay for people if they only tend to use for personal and non-profitable uses. Once one tries to gain a profit off these materials, it has gone too far.

Below is a music video off youtube of a music video that I quite enjoy of a Korean boy group. Enjoy!

The CareerMash expo of 2011

Hey there, long time no post. Haha! Anyways, I’ve been looking through the CareerMash website and found many ways to create a new career. The idea of being able to help contribute would be a great experience and could help us in our near or far future. The ability to create or help contribute to make a new career will not only let you get experience about the creation of something extreme. I am a person that would prefer being in a builder in situations like these. I am not a person that could create a totally brand new idea for something in this field. I would rather know about a new, and probably contribute in a way that I feel most suited for. The idea from the leaders will even allow people that are creating these ideas to build onto that idea. The human’s imagination is constantly at work and can spark a new idea that could make the big picture even bigger and better! Not a single idea is limited in anyway. I believe that I would enjoy working in the field of sound designer for video games. All games I played have constantly blown me away with unique soundtracks and being able to play it at a time that makes the game feel totally different. Working in the field will also let people discover new kinds of music that may be totally different from the ones we listen to on the radio. Working in a team is a given, no matter where you are, some sort of teamwork would most likely be needed. These fundamental skills that we learn from this experience may allow us to create our own small businesses that can provide us with jobs that we love and to create money out of it.

Texting affects us all...

Texting is a good way to communicate with other people when we are not able to speak out loud. Phones before texting was popular were made for calling, being both light and small, it was very portable. Now a day, we use the computer to text for communication. Our phones have grown larger with more accessories every generation. The blackberry phone, for example, is a company that created these phones that can go on the internet, act like an instant messaging application and call. These phones are controlling our talking ability. We are using acronym for words that are already easy to spell. We created a new generation where we are too lazy to type full words, instead, we use these shortened versions.
I believe that it is quite rude to text while someone is talking. One reason for it being impolite is due to the fact that the person texting has to continue to type and listen to you. If their good friend texts them, you left the other friend waiting until you finished your text.
If we were to have 5 rules for texting, it would be pretty simple to create these rules. First off, the first rules should be “Do not use your phones unless you have no other way to contact him/her” This means that we should not text if they see each other very often and would not be gone for a long time before seeing them again.
Another rule to be added is “You may only text __ number of texts in school this month” This rule varies because it gives the school freedom to choose how many texts each student can text while on school property. After that limit, the student would not get any network to continue to text their friends.
The third rule that should be added is “All people who do not own a phone can have a chance to win a second chance if they fail a test.” This allows people who don’t have a phone to have a better chance of success. With people on the phone, they can share questions and answers with each other. The person without the phone will have difficulty finding help from peers who are somewhere else.
The fourth rule should be “Everyone found texting during class will have their phone confiscated and have them attend an afternoon session with them.” This makes sure that all kids are not distracted and will pay more attention to the teacher than to the phone.
The fifth and final rule that I would make is “allow teachers to see what you are doing if they see you with your phone”. This allows the teachers to see if what the students are doing is relevant to the topic taught by the teacher. If the student was to refuse, they would need a good reason to not show. If not a good reason, they would need to show them the screen.
